Buying and Selling
“I breed horses. I also raise, train and sell them. Someone might come and love my horse. Technically they might be first in line. They may have the money and sometimes even be a really good hom. But I’ve put years worth of hopes and dreams, money, time, care, love, sweat and sometimes tears and blood into this horse and I know this particular horse in and out. I’ve had folks furious with me that they were first in line and I wouldn’t sell them a 4 year old for their 4 year old. But if I don’t think you’re right for each other, you’re not getting this horse. If you are a good person and a good home, I will gladly help you find a horse, whether it’s a different one of mine or not.
I’ve also turned down a potential buyer just because I didn’t have a good feeling about them. Sometimes it was how they handled her, sometimes it was the info they divulged about how they wanted to use her, and, to be honest, sometimes I just didn’t like their personality. I didn’t blow up at anyone like that, but I was very picky about where my horse went, and I think every seller has the right to be.”
