Pony Is a Four Letter Word

“My mom says a lot of weird things that I don’t really understand but I nod my head like I do. Just today she said, “Pony is a four-letter word” and all the other grown ups and older girls around laughed and laughed like it was a joke but it is true because I know how to spell pony and how to count to four.

I’m pretty sure she was talking about Josephine when she said it, because at the time she was putting the sting-y medicine on my scrapes that I got today and the older girls were telling her how I wasn’t steering and fell off, which is a little different than I remember but lesson learned! That’s something else Mom says a lot.

Josephine belongs to the riding school where Mom works but I kind of think of her as mine because I’m the only one small enough to ride her, and I’m the one that grooms her and cleans her feet. I’d feed her too but everyone says she’s fat and needs more work and less food so I try to work her when I can. But work isn’t really her thing which is why she ran us into that tree.

I love the older girls because they let me hang out with them and call me and Josephine their mascots and I’m pretty sure that’s a good thing. They let me do all of the important things like cleaning the tack and scrubbing water buckets that they don’t have time for. Mom says it’s fine because when I’m at the barn I’m supposed to do something useful and stay out of trouble. The older girls help me with that. And taking care of Josephine takes up a lot of my time too.”
